About

Lauren Faust

This body of work has been born from my intense fascination with insects. I've realized over time how many beautiful little creatures we can find when we simply look around us. It all started with spiders for me. I enjoyed studying their different shapes and sizes along with their behavior. Mantids caught my attention next, then leaf bugs, katydids, wheel bugs, etc... Moths have now become my muse and I'm particularly intrigued by their size, array of beautiful colors, and the function of their appearance. Their exceptional camouflage purely amazes me; it is evolution at its finest.

My professional training has consisted of almost all artistic mediums and methods, from painting and drawing, to sculpting. I even create stop motion animation, puppets, and miniatures. I am also a fan of horror and anything creepy so I strive to evoke a feeling of the uncanny throughout my work by executing each element with a high degree of realism.

This collection is an embodiment of all my interests and skills. With my work, I hope to inspire an interest in insects and teach people their value within a functional ecosystem and diverse planet. There are so many incredible species of wildlife out there and my art is a celebration of their beauty and mysticism.

These bugs are rendered three-dimensionally with clay and then painted with acrylic and oil paint.
